Eindhoven-based Incooling, a company that designs and develops two-phase cooling system solutions for data centres, has been crowned as a winner of the Dutch Tech Innovator Competition 2024, organised by KPMG Emerging Giants.

This victory secured Incooling a place in the global final of the KPMG Global Tech Innovator competition in Lisbon, which will take place on November 13, 2024.

With this, the winning company gains access to a week-long program of mentorship, media, and networking opportunities in Lisbon, including tickets for the Web Summit conference.

The Dutch startup is on a mission to “cool the planet, one server at a time” with its server cooling system. The company aims to address the significant energy consumption within data centers globally.

In 2022 and 2023, Dutch scaleups Whoppah and InPhocal competed in the global final.

Dutch Tech Innovator: What you need to know

The Dutch Tech Innovator is part of the KPMG Global Tech Innovator series. This competition is an international initiative that focuses on identifying and supporting the world’s most promising startups.

– A message from our partner –

The event includes 24 countries, starting with national competitions and culminating in a global final, that is held during the Web Summit conference in Lisbon.

To qualify, participating startups must be less than five years old (in their current form) and must have either raised more than $500,000 in funding or generated more than $1M in revenue.

Six startups were selected from a large group of online applications.

These six pitched their ideas in front of an audience of tech enthusiasts and a jury panel at Atelier de Vijzel in Amsterdam.

As finalists, all six companies received recognition as exciting Dutch startups to watch, free tickets to the TNW Conference, and support from the KPMG Emerging Giants team in accelerating their growth.

The participating startups were:

  • Incooling: Next-gen cooling solutions for servers.
  • tex.tracer: Ensuring transparency in the fashion supply chain.
  • Firsty.app: Providing free global mobile connectivity.
  • Weco – the Wave Energy Collective: Turning ocean waves into energy.
  • Naq: Simplifying health compliance with an all-in-one solution.
  • Tellet: AI platform enhancing consumer research.

“It was such an honor to win this award. All the pitches were so good – seeing such a high level of innovation and entrepreneurship makes me very proud of the Netherlands,” says Rudie Verweij, CEO and co-founder of Incooling.

Incooling has already completed a successful pilot project with ASML and has expressed intentions to further collaborate in the future.

Incooling: Cooling data centres with sustainable solutions

Led by Rudie Verweij, Incooling was founded after a joint initiative of the Eindhoven Startup Alliance with members including ASML and Philips, and led by the HightechXL deeptech venture.

Primarily created to cool the largest scientific experiment on the planet, the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Incooling adapted the unique properties of phase cooling and designed a next-generation two-phase cooled server dedicated to the data centre industry.

The company’s server system featuring phase change cooling technology and AI-based control systems is designed to lower the temperature at which CPUs currently operate.

Incooling says its solution is ideal for the most demanding applications such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), High-Performance Computing (HPC), heavy R&D simulations, and high-frequency trading for banking solutions.
