Exams can be one of the most stressful parts of the school experience.
In fact, over 40 per cent of college students say they have skipped a test, most often because of a lack of preparation or test anxiety.
The Kahoot! Study Habits Snapshot 2024 reports that a survey of 1,000 college students shows a strong connection between studying and mental health.
How students study affects their mental well-being, and how they feel can impact their study effectiveness.
Many students struggle with time management and distractions, which can make it hard to reach their study goals.
These challenges can worsen when students experience stress and mental health issues, says the study.
Here’s where edTech platform Kahoot! comes into play!

Kahoot!: Game-based learning platform
Founded in 2012 by Morten Versvik, Johan Brand, and Jamie Brooker, Kahoot! Provides a game-based learning platform for individuals or corporations to create, share, and play learning games.
Since its inception in 2013, Kahoot! Group claims to have grown into a multifaceted offering and a portfolio of leading brands at the intersection of digital learning and audience engagement.
Kahoot! is used by organisations of all sizes, including 97 per cent of Fortune 500 companies, to level up engagement and learning.
Recently, the company has launched new AI-powered study tools to help students start the school year feeling prepared.
How do AI study tools help students?
The company’s new AI study tools are designed to make studying more efficient, flexible and motivating.
According to the company, students can quickly turn their own materials, such as handwritten notes, documents, web pages and Wikipedia articles into interactive, gamified learning sessions.
Additionally, the AI tool will let students practice offline while on the go, simulating real test conditions.
“This means if a student is commuting, travelling or away from reliable internet access, they will now be able to still study effectively anywhere and anytime,” says Sean D’Arcy, Chief
Solutions Officer at Kahoot! to Silicon Canals.
This feature also allows students to turn off their Wi-Fi and study freely without any wider distractions, such as social media.
With the added integration of Apple’s on-device AI in iOS 26, it also supports privacy.
“This means less time spent figuring out how to study and more time dedicated to actual learning and feeling prepared,” adds Sean D’Arcy.
Personalised experience through AI Generator
The AI Generator provides a new way to create quizzes, unlike traditional Kahoot! methods.
“This method makes learning more personalised by using each student’s own materials that are relevant to their syllabus and exam board,” explains Sean D’Arcy.
Instead of writing questions by hand, students can automatically generate quizzes with multiple-choice questions, practice tests, vocabulary reviews, and short lessons.
“In addition, the “Question extractor” tool scans exams or tests and turns them into engaging Kahoot! quiz questions,” adds Sean D’Arcy
The “Step-by-Step Solver” helps break down difficult problems into easy-to-understand explanations.
Recreating the feeling of the actual exam
Besides AI generator, the platform also provides “Test Mode,” which helps students by recreating the feeling of an actual exam.
“By creating a platform where students can practice in a safe, supportive environment, Kahoot! helps reduce uncertainty and build confidence,” says Sean D’Arcy.
In this mode, answers are kept hidden until the end, and students receive a summary of their results, including scores, accuracy and time spent.
“This helps to identify where they need more practice, while also building confidence in managing exam-style pressure. Research shows Kahoot! study can already boost performance by a full letter grade, and Test Mode strengthens that impact by ensuring pupils have properly consolidated their knowledge and practised applying it under timed conditions,” states Sean D’Arcy.
The platform also features animated study buddies, which it uses well-loved characters to keep students engaged and motivated while they learn.
“If I were a student today, the feature I’d use the most would definitely be the AI Generator. It’s like having a personal tutor on demand, making every study session both more efficient and more engaging,” concludes Sean D’Arcy.
