Microsoft is extending undisclosed usage caps to additional Copilot Chat features for enterprise users who already pay for Microsoft 365 subscriptions but do not hold separate Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses, restricting access to certain AI capabilities and nudging users to upgrade to a paid Copilot-specific license.
Before the change, commercial users could access Copilot Chat at no additional cost through eligible Microsoft 365 business and enterprise subscriptions, including Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, Office 365 E3 and E5, and Microsoft 365 E3 and E5.
While Microsoft already applied fair-use limits to certain capabilities, such as image generation, it is now extending usage restrictions to additional Copilot Chat features, without specifying which capabilities will be affected or disclosing the thresholds governing their use.
